The National Amateur Radio Alliance marks its first year on July 4, 2026, as the United States marks its 250th.
A year ago NARA was an idea shared by a handful of operators who thought amateur radio needed another national voice — one built around clubs, new licensees and the operators who keep the bands active. Since then we have:
- Filed with the FCC in defense of amateur spectrum and amateur licensing.
- Stood with operators fighting for the right to put up an antenna where a homeowners association says no.
- Published WhatIsHamRadio.com and a community amateur radio wiki, both free to everyone.
- Built a national club directory, state club councils and a presenters panel.
- Welcomed founding members, clubs, organizations and corporate supporters from across the country.
None of it happened because of an office. It happened because members paid dues, volunteers gave their weekends, and clubs opened their doors.
Here is to the next year — and to 250 years of a country whose radio amateurs have never needed to be asked twice to help.
