License reminder texts
An amateur or GMRS license expires ten years after it is granted, and it is easy to miss the date. A NARA member can ask us to text them before it happens. This page shows how that sign-up works, what the messages say, and how to stop them.
Who sends the messages, and to whom
The National Amateur Radio Alliance (NARA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit amateur radio organization, sends them. They go only to our own members, at the mobile number the member types in themselves. We do not buy, rent or import numbers, and nobody is messaged for signing up for anything else.
Reminders go out 90, 60 and 30 days before the expiration date we read from the FCC's database — at most a few messages a year. There is no marketing, and no other kind of text.
How a member signs up
Signing up happens on the member's own account page, which needs a sign-in because it holds that member's callsign, telephone number and license record. The steps are:
- Sign in at usnara.org/login as a NARA member.
- Open Benefits → License reminders, at
usnara.org/portal/notifications. - Tick Remind me before my amateur license expires and type the callsign to watch.
- Under How should we reach you?, tick Text message, and type the mobile number the texts should go to.
- Tick the consent box, reproduced exactly below, and press Save reminder settings.
Nothing is sent until that consent box is ticked. We record the number and the date and time the member agreed, and show it back to them on the same page. Changing the number, or switching texts off and on again, asks for consent afresh.
The sign-up form, as the member sees it

Reminders go out 90, 60 and 30 days before your expiration date. Once you renew, we pick up your new expiration date from the FCC automatically, so any remaining reminders stop on their own.

What the messages say
Every reminder names NARA, the callsign, the expiration date and the days remaining, and links to the FCC's own renewal service:
NARA: your amateur license KO4ZRX expires 14 March 2027 (90 days). Renew in the FCC ULS License Manager: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp Reply STOP to opt out.

Stopping the messages, and getting help
Reply STOP to any message and they end; we reply once to confirm. A member can also switch texts off on the same account page they turned them on, and reminders stop by themselves once the FCC shows the license renewed.
