Upgrading your license

From Technician to General to Amateur Extra.

Step up

General

General is the upgrade that changes what the hobby feels like. It opens most of the HF bands, which is where worldwide contacts happen without relying on the internet or a repeater.

  • 35 questions, same format as Technician.
  • Phone, CW and digital privileges across 80, 40, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metres.
  • Most study guides estimate two to four weeks of casual study.

  • 50 questions covering circuits, propagation, measurement and regulation.
  • Full access to every US amateur band segment.
  • Qualifies you to serve as a Volunteer Examiner at the highest level.
